The short version. You can use codeonline — write code, play games, save
to your device — without an account and without giving us any personal
information. There are no ads and no trackers. We never sell or share
your data. Signing in is optional and only unlocks cloud saves and publishing.
Using it without an account
- Your programs run locally in your browser (or in the offline app). We don’t
need or receive your code to run it.
- Games you make are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device. Clearing
your browser data removes them.
- No sign-in, no email, no personal data is required to learn, build, or play.
If you choose to sign in
Sign-in (Google, GitHub, or email code) is optional. It only exists so you can save
your games to the cloud, pick a nickname, and publish games to the community gallery. If you
sign in, we store:
- Your email address — to sign you in and send a one-time verification code.
- A nickname you choose (or one we generate).
- Your saved games and any games you publish to the community gallery.
That’s all. We don’t build advertising profiles, and we don’t use
third-party analytics.
Multiplayer
When you play a multiplayer game, your position and game state are relayed in real time to
the other players in your room so the game works. This is not stored — it passes
through and is gone.
Children
- No personal information is required for a child to use codeonline — it works fully
without an account.
- The community gallery (publishing) requires signing in, so it isn’t intended for
young children without a guardian.
- For classrooms: a planned no-account “class code” mode lets students
join with a code and a display name — no email, no personal data — so
it fits COPPA/FERPA expectations. See the teachers page.
Your control
- You can delete any game you published from the launcher (the × on your community tiles).
- To delete your account and associated data (email, nickname, saves), contact us and we’ll remove it.
- Signed out or offline, everything stays on your device.
